DOMESTIC ENERGY SAVING PROJECT

The project made an initial contribution to the post-war reconstruction of Afghanistan with environmentally carefully considered measures to create conditions allowing the resettlement of refugees. This was achieved with the systematic dissemination of wood-saving technologies in the context of temporary repair and construction works in selected home villages of Afghan refugees. The target groups are Afghan people in the provinces of Paktia and Ghazni as well as Afghans who fled from these regions and now live in camps of the North West Frontier Province of Pakistan.

The Domestic Energy Saving Project was launched in 1985 to work for Afghan refugees who had come to North West Frontier Province of Pakistan.

There were four types of activities in the Domestic Energy Saving Project between 1985 and 1990:

  1. establishing fuel-saving bakeries
  2. disseminating fuel-saving cooking stoves
  3. building clay-domed houses
  4. implementing an energy education campaign

The activities of the project were implemented in the refugee camps in Pakistan. In 1989 it was decided to start planning of the activities inside Afghanistan.
